DISLOCATIONS—on the spot

The urban space of Mitte in Berlin has undergone rapid transformations since the 1990s: it has become a symbol of gentrification, a hub for commercial galleries, a target for property speculation, and a backdrop for tourists. The curated series on the spot focuses on these processes of commodification and displacement – as well as on artistic strategies used to resist them. Through exhibition, performance, and discourse, on the spot brings together contemporary artistic approaches and archival material to explore the speculation and constructed meaning that a site may be charged with.
