Courage: Schwestern im Geiste

Prater Galerie reopens its doors at Berlin’s Prater, following extensive renovations, with Courage: Schwestern im Geiste. The show is part of the ifa exhibition series Publik Machen – Zu Arbeit und Wirken des Zentrums für Kunstausstellungen der DDR (ZfK). In East Berlin, Prater Galerie was a central site for contemporary art and was closely connected to the ZfK. Taking the points of intersection between the two institutions as a starting point, the exhibition redresses the underrepresentation of women artists at the time. It features works exclusively by women artists engaging with social and political questions. Historical and contemporary works are brought together to form a nuanced view of resistance, memory, and self-organisation.
