Over 100 original photographs from a 40-year career bring to life the spectrum of portraiture by Roger Melis (1940–2009) and illuminate the lively intellectual life of the East German cultural scene. The exhibition includes both well-known and never seen before images. The names Johannes Bobrowski, Heiner Müller, Thomas Brasch and Christa Wolf are almost always associated with Melis portraits. A special focus of the exhibition is the portrait series “Artists of Prenzlauer Berg,” created in 1989. In cooperation with Akademie der Künste and Leonhardi Museum Dresden.
