Déformation Professionelle can be translated from French as professional distortion. It refers to a “tendency to unconsciously apply professional or specialised methods or perspectives to topics and situations beyond their intended scope, where they can lead to restricted understanding, misjudgements and socially inappropriate behaviours.” Actress and author Olga Hohmann takes on the role of a white-coated, hard-hat-wearing supervisor. With an air of expertise, she identifies, examines, and presents each work in the exhibition in terms of its apparent function. The absurdity of her actions is inscribed in the very fabric of the performance.
