The oak tree takes centre stage in the Gewald exhibition, serving as a focal point to explore the toxic interplay between humans and the natural world. For Berlin-based Polish artist georgia Krawiec, the oak inspired creative exploration in experimental photography. In both Germany and Poland, there is a long history of the oak being venerated as a mythological deity. Oaks have been deified as the Germanic god Donar and have also been given the form of Slavic oak god, Perun. The themes explored in the exhibition include these glorified and fetishized aspects of the tree.
